At the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the restored Kukan returned to the screen not simply as a film, but as a living bridge across time—its images of war, courage, and shared sacrifice illuminating a legacy of Sino–American friendship. The ceremony gathered filmmakers, scholars, community leaders, and descendants of its original creators in a moment of remembrance and renewal. To promote traditional Shanghainese culture and the finest Jiangnan culture, the Shanghai Pingtan Troupe, co-hosted by EDI Media, the Shanghai Pingtan Troupe, and CMC Inc., hosted a large-scale Shanghainese cultural exchange tour in four renowned American cultural cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Atlanta, from April 30 to May 16, 2025, Mother’s Day.

AACAF initially pitched the idea of the Project Pitch Competition to the Chinese American Film Festival (CAFF) in 2021. Beginning 2023, CAFF, Warner Bros. Discovery Group (WBD) and Shanghai Film Group (SFG) joined the cause to kickstart the Competition and invest in new filmmakers. An annual fund was created along with a direct pipeline to “pitch” to experienced Chinese and American filmmakers and studio executives.
